About Us
Great Bentley is located in north east Essex in the District of Tendring, approximately seven miles east of Colchester.
The population in the 2001 census was 2,259. Apart from the village, the Parish is made up of the hamlet of Aingers Green, Holly Bush Hill and part of Flag Hill.
The village came to prominence when it won the national Village of the Year competition in 2000 and is celebrated again in 2015 after winning the top prize in Essex Village of the Year and Best Kept Village Competition.
Great Bentley is best known for having one of the largest Village Greens (approximately 43 acres) in England, owned and managed by the Parish Council, however, this is just one of many features.
The village has a thriving Business Centre, with local businesses collectively providing around 200 jobs to the community. There are a large number of community groups and a wide range of annual events such as a carnival, village show and drama productions that are designed to appeal to residents of all ages.
